To celebrate International Women’s Day we asked some of our shining stars to answer a few questions about working in the legal sector and who inspires them in life!
Sophie Holdsworth – Operations Manager
What is your proudest achievement whilst working at Farnworth Rose?
Progressing through the company, starting as the office junior fresh out of college to taking on the role of Operations Manager. It has been a tough but fun journey with something new to learn every single day.
Which women inspire you the most?
All of the women in my family! From my mum to aunties, grandma, and cousins. They are all solid as a rock and nothing phases them, they take everything in their stride and are the toughest group of women I know, always inspiring each other to be the best versions of themselves.
Nina Barlow - Solicitor
Why did you get into the legal profession?
I have wanted to be a lawyer since I was 7 years old. Thinking back this was prompted by watching shows like Ally McBeal and rifling through books about the English legal system which I always found fascinating. As I was raised to be a feminist, I found the idea of succeeding in a typically male dominated industry particularly appealing and was thrilled to be the first person in my family to go to university.
Which women inspire you the most?
It is quite cliché but I have always found Lady Hale particularly inspiring. I remember hearing her speak as a guest lecturer when I was at University and a friend and I deciding she was the “Beyonce” of the legal industry. She truly is a trailblazing legend in the legal industry! That being said, there are countless other women in law I have discovered through the “Next 100 Years” project (Carrie Morrison, Ivy Williams and Constance Markievicz to name a few). The project shows the progress made in the first 100 years of women working in law and I would encourage everyone to find them on social media.
Jessica Wearden – Trainee Conveyancer
What is your proudest achievement whilst working at Farnworth Rose?
Completing my Business Administration Apprenticeship and moving on to start a course to qualify as a Licensed Conveyancer.
Which women inspire you the most?
My mum, she went back to university in her 30s to pursue a major career change whilst looking after my siblings and I. It shows it is possible to pursue ambitions later than people expect you to.
Karen Dickinson – Senior Conveyancing Assistant
What do you enjoy most about your role?
Ringing clients and telling them they can pick up the keys to their new home on completion of a transaction.
Which women inspire you the most?
Those who know their own mind, stand up for their beliefs, speak out and don’t worry about other people think – my grandma being one of those women!
Bryony Crook – Wills & Probate Administration Assistant
What is your proudest achievement whilst working at Farnworth Rose?
This would be getting a distinction in my apprenticeship whilst still managing to keep on top of my day to day workload.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
Meeting with different clients and being able to provide assistance to people, it’s nice to get their feedback when you feel like you’ve helped them and provided a good service.
